QuickCompress Privacy Policy
Last updated September 8, 2026
QuickCompress ("QuickCompress", "we", "us", or "our") is a desktop application operated by Freddy Agbona, based in Cotonou, Benin. QuickCompress helps users compress video files locally on their Mac.
Our core privacy principle is simple: your videos stay on your Mac.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we process when you use the QuickCompress website, desktop application, licensing services, payment flow, downloads, support, and related services.
1. Contact
Operator: Freddy Agbona
Location: Cotonou, Benin
Email: hello@fredthedev.com
Website: https://getquickcompress.com
2. Local video processing
QuickCompress performs video compression locally on your Mac. Your video files are not uploaded to QuickCompress servers for compression.
As part of the compression process, we do not intentionally receive, store, inspect, or process on our servers:
- the contents of your videos;
- video filenames;
- local file paths; or
- compressed output files.
QuickCompress is not a cloud video-processing service.
3. Information we process
Purchase and licensing information
QuickCompress V1 does not require a traditional QuickCompress account or password. To provide and manage your paid license, we may process:
- the email address associated with your purchase;
- purchase and transaction identifiers;
- license/entitlement identifiers and status;
- license activation and deactivation status;
- activation timestamps;
- a privacy-preserving, one-way-hashed or pseudonymous device identifier; and
- information necessary to validate, transfer, refund, revoke, or support your license.
We use this information to confirm purchases, issue and validate licenses, enforce the one-active-Mac license limit, enable device transfers, provide support, prevent abuse, and maintain purchase records.
Payment information
Payments are processed by Dodo Payments, which acts as Merchant of Record for QuickCompress transactions.
Dodo Payments may process information required to complete a purchase, such as your name, email address, billing information, payment method information, country or region, applicable tax information, transaction details, invoices, refunds, and disputes.
QuickCompress does not directly receive or store your full payment-card details. Payment-related information processed by Dodo Payments is also subject to Dodo Payments' applicable terms and privacy policy.
Website analytics
When you use getquickcompress.com, limited technical and usage information may be processed to understand website performance and the purchase funnel. This may include information such as browser/device category, operating system, approximate region, referring source, pages viewed, campaign/referral information, and bounded interaction events.
Desktop product analytics
QuickCompress may collect limited privacy-safe product analytics where configured. These may include events such as application launch, activation outcome, compression started/completed/failed, general preset used, bucketed file-size ranges, app version, OS/platform information, and bounded performance measurements.
Analytics must not intentionally contain video contents, filenames, local file paths, or compressed output files.
4. Local compression history
QuickCompress may store recent-compression history locally on your Mac. This may include metadata such as original and resulting file sizes, compression date/time, selected preset, result status, and a local reference to the output file.
This history is intended to remain local to your Mac and is not synchronized to QuickCompress servers. Clearing QuickCompress history does not intentionally delete your actual video files.
5. Purposes of processing
We process information only where reasonably necessary to:
- provide and maintain QuickCompress;
- process and verify purchases;
- issue, activate, validate, transfer, refund, or revoke licenses;
- enforce the permitted activation limit;
- provide customer support;
- prevent fraud, misuse, and abuse;
- diagnose failures and improve reliability;
- understand product and website performance;
- deliver and verify software updates; and
- comply with applicable accounting, tax, legal, and regulatory obligations.
Where applicable, our legal basis may include performance of a contract, legitimate interests, compliance with legal obligations, and consent where consent is required.
6. Software downloads and updates
QuickCompress may contact our release infrastructure to check whether a newer application version is available. An update request may include technical information required to determine update eligibility, such as the installed application version and platform information.
Update packages are intended to be cryptographically verified before installation. A failed update check, including when you are offline, should not prevent normal locally licensed compression where your current license state permits offline use.
7. Service providers
We may use third-party service providers for functions such as:
- Merchant of Record, payment processing, invoicing, taxes, refunds, and disputes (Dodo Payments);
- website hosting;
- application/API hosting and databases;
- software-download/CDN hosting;
- transactional email;
- error monitoring;
- product analytics; and
- software distribution and update infrastructure.
These providers may process limited information on our behalf or, where applicable, under their own legal responsibilities. We aim to disclose or transmit only the information reasonably necessary for the relevant service.
8. Data retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law.
Purchase, transaction, refund, tax, and accounting records may be retained for legally required periods. License and entitlement records may be retained for the duration of the license and for a reasonable period afterward for support, fraud prevention, dispute handling, and recordkeeping.
Local compression history remains on your device until you clear it, remove applicable application data, or otherwise delete it.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information processed through QuickCompress. No system can guarantee absolute security.
QuickCompress reduces a major category of privacy risk by performing the video-compression workload locally rather than uploading the source video to QuickCompress servers.
10. International processing
Our infrastructure and service providers may process information in countries other than your country of residence. Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers of personal data, we will use appropriate measures available to us and our service providers.
11. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights concerning your personal information, including rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, or withdrawal of consent where processing relies on consent.
These rights may be subject to legal exceptions and record-retention requirements.
To make a privacy request, email hello@fredthedev.com. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests.
12. Children
QuickCompress is not specifically directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. If you believe a child has improperly provided personal information to us, contact hello@fredthedev.com.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as QuickCompress, our providers, or applicable legal requirements change. The current version will be published on getquickcompress.com with an updated "Last updated" date when appropriate.
